Our Pool Renovation & Building Process

Building or renovating your dream pool should be an exciting journey, not a source of stress. Our proven process ensures clear communication and expert guidance at every stage of your project. Let us know if you want to know more about next steps.

What To Know Before We Start

  1. If your residence is inside a guard-gated community, please include Watters Aquatech on your permanent list so we can access your property throughout the build. If the neighborhood has a security gate requiring a code, provide us with the access code and let us know if the code changes at any point during the project.
  2. Please remove any locks on your gate before excavation begins.
  3. A team member will mark all underground utility lines before we start construction. You may notice spray paint on your sidewalk or alongside your house.
  4. Put any items in the construction area that might be confused with our construction tools (i.e. brooms, hoses, etc.) in your garage or another storage area.
  5. Since shipping times and material availability vary, you will choose pool materials before the project begins to ensure timely completion.
  6. We will do our best to keep the construction site as clean as possible. We will conduct a general site cleanup at certain points throughout the project to maintain cleanliness and organization. We will remove any remaining debris toward the end of the project.

*Adverse weather conditions (i.e. wind, rain, and extreme temperatures) might delay construction. We’ll do our best to communicate potential weather delays with you.

The Process

Step 1

Consultation and Design

We meet with you at the site to understand your hopes and dreams for your yard, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience that can open your eyes to all the possibilities. Our goal is to design a yard that fulfills your vision.

Step 2

Layout and Excavation

We lay out the pool design so you can properly see it in the yard. We then excavate the soil to the proper lengths and depths. We also walk the yard with you to review all the site conditions, including equipment location, access, existing yard components, and more.

Step 3

Plumbing and Steel

Our plumbers trench out and install all the piping and equipment per the project specifications. Our steel techs come in to lay steel reinforcement within the pool according to the engineer’s specifications.

Step 4

Shotcrete

We apply the concrete, also known as “gunite,” to the walls and floor of the pool shell. We spray the concrete at a high velocity around your steel so the walls and floor align with the engineer’s specifications. This is when the pool takes its shape. Our team water cures the shell as needed in the days following the shotcrete application.

Step 5

Tile and Decking

We install the waterline tile, which acts as a transition between what’s above and below the water and protects the plaster applied in the following steps. The deck process varies depending on the material you choose. The pool decking phase differs depending on the selected material, such as poured-in-place concrete, sand set pavers, or natural stone.

Step 6

Backyard Accessories

Once all the base items are complete, we build the exterior features. This includes BBQs, fire pits, media walls, pergolas, and more. Sometimes, we need to install footings in preparation for certain backyard accessories before the decking is completed.

Step 7

Plaster

Plaster gives the pool its beautiful color. The plaster goes over the shotcrete shell to seal, protect, and beautify your pool. Plaster comes in many finishes, and we install the specified material for your project. In most cases, we place a hose at the bottom of the pool and begin filling it upon plaster completion.

Step 8

Pool School and Startup

Once your pool is full, a member of our team comes out to start up the equipment and begin balancing the water, brushing the pool, and installing any accessories associated with the project. We schedule a “pool school,” where one of our knowledgeable techs meets with you to guide you through the ins and outs of pool ownership. We maintain and balance your pool for 30 days to help get you started.
