He’s the man behind the quality of your pool. Meet Dustin Watters, VP of construction at Watters Aquatech Pools and spas.

From a young age he has worked alongside his father the founder of Watters Aquatech Pools. Even as a young boy he would help his dad build quality swimming pools in Las Vegas, Nevada and was taught why quality matters. Today, Dustin Watters oversees all aspects of construction for the family pool company. His father Russ Watters has always taught Dustin to never compromise and always take care of the customer. May Water Safety Month

As the days begin to grow longer and warmer, your friends at Watters Aquatech Pools would like to remind you that May is Water Safety Month. The pool and the spa are undoubtedly places of leisure and enjoyment. However, especially with children, they can also be hazardous sometimes even lethal. In fact each year somewhere around 830 kids under 14 die as a result of unintentional drowning. And although the trend has been slowing, in 2007 30% of all deaths of children 1 to 4 years old were caused by unintentional drowning. So keeping that in mind, here are a few tips of on pool safety and on having a fun and safe summer.

Firstly, when it comes to water safety as drowning prevention is paramount it would behoove many parents or guardians to learn CPR and rescue breathing from instructor classes in your area.

Secondly, do not substitute floating toys or swimming aids for actual life vests. Keep in mind just because your child can swim does not mean he or she is not still at risk for drowning.

Thirdly, any pool home should be surrounded by a sixty inch tall pool safety fence with a self-closing, self-latching gate. A safety cover or tarp covering will also work well in preventing kids from falling in, though a gate or fence is much preferred.

Finally, and perhaps most important thing to do when it comes to drowning prevention is just plain supervision. Keep an eye on your kids knowing where they are around the pool at all times and never leave a child unattended around a pool or spa.
